About Us

Leigh Michaels is the author of 80 contemporary romance novels published by Harlequin, and now writes single-title historical romance to be published by Sourcebooks.

More than 30 million copies of her books have been sold in 25 languages and 120 countries. Six of her books have been finalists in the Best Traditional Romance division of the RITA contest sponsored by Romance Writers of America, and she has received Reviewer’s Choice Awards from Romantic Times magazine.

She is also the author of non-fiction books such as On Writing Romance, the definitive guide to writing romance novels, published by Writers Digest Books, and Creating Romantic Characters. She is the author (with her husband, photographer/artist Michael Lemberger) of Ottumwa, a history in vintage postcards of their hometown, Ottumwa, Iowa (published by Arcadia Publishing) and many other non-fiction titles. She teaches romance writing online at Gotham Writers Workshop — www.writingclasses.com — and does a limited amount of manuscript critiquing. Her website is www.leighmichaels.com.

She wrote her first romance novel as a teenager and burned it, then wrote and burned five more complete manuscripts in the next ten years before submitting to a publisher. Her first submission was accepted and published by Harlequin, leading to a long association with the company.

Her contemporary romances are traditional in nature, set in Midwestern cities or small towns and emphasizing family values. Her historical romance novels, to be published in 2011, are spicy single-titles, set in England in the Regency period.

A native Iowan, she received her bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, finishing her degree program in three years and graduating summa cum laude.

Rachelle Chase is an award-winning erotic romance author, speaker, business consultant for Fortune 500 companies, and model. In 2001, she began her writing career with an online romance writing class taught by Leigh Michaels, and her first published work, “Out of Control” in Secrets Volume 13, got its start by winning best-selling author Lori Foster’s online “Pick of the Week” contest in 2003.

So, as a way to help other writers get off to a great start like these two authors helped her, she dreamt up the idea for the Chase the Dream contest, and begged Leigh Michaels to host it with her. Rachelle’s first book, Sex Lounge, was released in May 2007, followed by Sin Club, her first single author anthology, in December 2007. Her novella, “The Firefighter Wears Prada,” in Men on Fire, will be out in November 2009.

As a speaker, Rachelle’s presentations include: How to Get Published by Accident, Aggressive Promotion for Penny Pinchers, and Making the Mundane Erotic.

Rachelle also hosts two live talk shows, “SingleMindedWomen.com Talk Radio” and “Chatting with Chase.” She also sponsored the SEX LOUNGE Finding Derek CONTEST – an online contest where sexy hunks compete online to be Derek Mitchell, the hero of Sex Lounge.

She’s appeared on Playboy Radio, the Hip-Hop Connection, the Jordan Rich Show, and other radio programs nationwide.

When she’s not writing or dreaming up fun contests, she loves to cram whatever she can fit in a very large backpack and travel, plus search for the perfect dessert at local restaurants, meddle in the lives of her family members, and start new hobbies.
